| Description: |
The medical director is charged with fulfilling
the company’s contractual obligation to a client hospital,
including physicians staffing, department management and supervision
of medical care. Responsibilities include provision of leadership
and compliance with Team Health goals and objectives.
Position
Requirements:
- Board Certified in Emergency Medicine preferred.
- Previous
management and leadership experience in an ED setting.
- Excellent
communication skills.
- Strong clinical skills.
Professional
Competencies:
- Maintain personal credentials to include
licensure, DEA registration, Board certification and additional
requirements such as ACLS, ATLS as required by hospital or contract.
- Stay
current on best practices in the specialty through a personal program
of C.M.E.
- Consistently demonstrate effective communication,
negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Maintain a
positive and optimistic attitude in the performance of duties.
Staffing Duties:
- Maintain the department fully staffed,
complying promptly with recruiter requests to telephone interested
candidates as needed. The medical director should interview candidates
when not occupied with clinical duties.
- Create a schedule,
which is equitable, periodically working all types of shifts.
- Appropriately
divide time at hospital between clinical and administrative duties.
- Complete
staffing schedule on a timely basis.
- Submit payroll information
promptly.
Educational Duties:
- Orient all new providers
to the department. This should be done as a formal process using
a checklist. It is estimated that at least 4 hrs. will be spent
in orienting new providers prior to their starting clinical work.
- Ensure
that new providers are closely supervised during their first few
shifts.
- Consistently transmits to providers all information
and directives from Team Health.
- Ensure compliance amongst
providers with educational programs; to include compliance
with all education and training programs, i.e. risk management,
etc.
- Present
educational topics to staff on a regular basis.
- Orients
new hospital Attendings to the ED, including policies, procedures
and conflict resolution.
Operation/ Relationships:
- Spend
adequate time at hospital outside clinical shifts to fulfill
administrative duties.
- At all times provide direction
and leadership for the ED.
- Meet regularly with nursing,
hospital administration, and directors of ancillary departments,
as well as hospital Risk
Manager.
- Have regular, formal ED department meetings
with written minutes.
- Belong to appropriate hospital
committees and ensure ED physician participation in the hospital
committee
structure.
- Participate in hospital activities and be
involved in the community, as well as participating in medical
staff activities.
Performance Improvement:
- Conduct a comprehensive performance
improvement program in the department.
- Regularly communicate
the results of PI activities to hospital management and medical
staff.
- Institute “Best Practices” initiatives
as appropriate.
- Cooperate fully with hospital to successfully
undergo JCAHO inspections.
Risk Management:
- Be responsible
for the evaluation of clinical encounters with a high risk
for liability.
- Promote risk management training for
ED providers.
- Complies
with Team Health’s incident reporting requirements.
- Institute
and maintain an effective complaint management system.
- Cooperate
with RMRC activities and ensure departmental compliance with
Team Health risk management initiatives.

We are currently seeking full and part-time physicians
to work in the Emergency Department at Wabash County Hospital.
Wabash County Hospital (WCH) is a 50-bed facility located in a residential
area on the northeast side of town. The Emergency Department sees
approximately 11,000 patients annually with 8% of all patients seen
being admitted. The six-bed department, renovated in 1999, includes
two trauma/laceration rooms, one orthopedic room, two exam rooms,
and one OB room. The schedule is set up for 12-hour and 24-hour
shifts.
Wabash has a population of 14,000, with about 30,000 in the general
catchment area. It is conveniently located approximately 46 miles
from Fort Wayne, 90 miles from Indianapolis, and 170 miles from
Chicago.
Candidates must be board-eligible or board-certified in a Primary
Care specialty with Emergency Medicine experience. Physicians have
the opportunity to participate in a 401(k) retirement savings plan
with immediate vesting. An insurance package at preferred group
rates, which includes health, prescription, dental, vision, and
life, is available via payroll deduction to full-time physicians.
